The Music Org Chart

As I have traveled around the stake visiting with ward music personnel, I have observed a lot of confusion among Bishops and their counselors about the various ward music callings (i.e., what they're called, what they do, etc.). This is causing confusion among ward music personnel about their specific responsibilities. I thought it would be helpful to address this with the simple visual above (click to enlarge).

Each of these callings is unique in function and they require differing levels of musical ability. It is ideal to have a different individual serving in each of these roles. In some cases, based on a particular ward's circumstances, some of these callings may be combined. If callings are combined, it is very important to clearly articulate that the member is expected to fulfill the responsibilities of each calling.

Bishops and counselors, please take a moment to familiarize yourselves with this simple construct and make the necessary adjustments in your ward if there are inaccuracies.  I would encourage you to take a few minutes in your next bishopric meeting to review the additional details available in section 14.2 of Handbook 2: Administering the Church.
